Crossing Lines

Where exactly is the dividing line between romance and erotica? I can see how each genre could exist on its own. You can have romance without any sex and I think you can have erotica without any romance. Is it the details? Does the dividing line depend on how the author describes intimate moments? Does it have to do with the type of sexual activity taking place? Can you have a story with a simple romance plot, but the characters like to engage in some kind of bizarre sexual activity that lifts the genre into the erotic? I know, I know, I'm sure this line is not as cut and dry and simple. I do worry a bit about categorizing my novel. What if it isn't steamy enough for the erotic fans? What if it is too steamy for the romance lovers? I know that it is all about making sure I'm happy with what I write.
With that said, I would like to hear from other people. Where do you feel this line lies? Have you ever been let down by a book being classified in the wrong way? Have you ever blushed a little reading next to your significant other as your book took you somewhere a bit out of your comfort zone. Do share...

Schooling Scarlett

Schooling Scarlett, my debut novelette, is set to release in March 2014. The premise for this story was inspired by a self-proclaimed computer geek friend of mine. He was having trouble in the dating department and asked me if he could go down on me for practice. I'm not going to tell you what happened after that. You'll just have to read the book.
